Youth Hockey Programs
Whether you are new to the sport of ice hockey or a seasoned player, we have a program for you. Locally, we offer multiple pathways to provide hockey opportunities. If you are new to hockey, please read this blog post. It's a quick primer on what to expect if your child falls in love with hockey and decides to make this a regular thing.
Program Info
Eugene Jr. Generals Hockey
A full-season, co-ed youth hockey program providing player development and games against other associations.
Our House/Travel Regular Season Youth Hockey Program
The Lane Amateur Hockey Association (LAHA) is home to the Eugene Jr. Generals youth hockey program. The program is open to players ages 4-18 and is comprised of "house level" teams in age divisions as prescribed by USA Hockey. Our program follows the American Development Model which emphasizes creating opportunities for players to be learning and doing the things they are best equipped to learn at different age levels. Learn more about ADM here. Ultimately, the goal is to create strong, well-rounded athletes who develop a lifelong love for the game.
Our season runs from the fall (Sept/Oct depending on age division) through to the spring (Feb/Mar depending on age division). Practices are held in Eugene at The Rink Exchange and include a combination of both off-ice, dryland exercises as well as on-ice, station-based drills and scrimmages.
Throughout the season, teams will play against associations from across Oregon and Washington. The majority of games are typically held in Eugene but there are occasional away games, sometimes, but not always, requiring an overnight stay. These trips make for great team bonding opportunities. In addition to regular season games, teams typically register for 2-3 tournaments. While travel to these outside events is not required, these trips provide lifelong memories and it's where, as a parent, you really get to see the team come together for a common goal. If cost is a concern, know that there is likely a family more than willing to carpool or share hotel rooms so your child can play — just ask and your team manager or coach can help.
Because our program is a "house level" program, we accept players of all abilities. Our emphasis during games is on development, not what's on the scoreboard. We want all players to have fun and enjoy hockey.
All players are issued a uniform for games, however families are to supply their player with their own set of gear and practice attire. If you need help with this, please let us know.
Registration for the Eugene Jr. Generals typically opens in the summer and an announcement will be made when the registration date is set. We also hold an in-person registration day in August. If you miss registration day, you can still register. We accept new players throughout the season. As for payment, we accept payment in full via cash, credit card, or check, or you can participate in our payment plan. If you need financial assistance, be sure to apply for a scholarship.

Girls Hockey
Play Hockey, Make Friends, and Have Fun!
In addition to the co-ed teams offered here in Eugene, there are also girls-specific clinics provided throughout the season to get all of the girls on the ice together. It's a lot of fun and helps the girls feel better connected within the program.
For girls looking to add an all-girls experience to their hockey season, USA Hockey and OSHA permit girls to dual roster on both a youth team and a girls team so long as both are not nationally bound. Some of the girls in our program dual roster with Rose City Hockey Club and travel with them to female tournaments.
There is also opportunity for girls who play hockey in Oregon to progress to USA Hockey regional camps. In both 2019 and 2020, LAHA had two girls selected to represent Oregon at the Western Regional Multi-District High Performance Camp in Colorado Springs, CO where 200 of the best girls from the western states compete to advance to national camps. In 2021 and 2022, we continued to represent with a few of our local girls participating in the Pacific District Girls Development Camp in Las Vegas, NV.

Special Hockey
Hockey Programs for All Abilities
Special Hockey exists for the enrichment of the athlete with a developmental disability. In addition to physical hockey skills, the program emphasizes the development of desirable individual characteristics such as dependability, self-reliance, concentration, willingness to share and personal accountability. The game of hockey is used by Special Hockey to develop within each player the characteristics that will help the player to be more successful both inside and outside a hockey environment.
The 2024-25 program runs from October through February. Practices are held on Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. Athletes should try to arrive 20 to 30 minutes prior the start of practice to put on gear. The cost of the program is $75 for the season. Please pass this information on to other potential athletes or parents that may be interested in the program.

Intro to Hockey
Learn the Basics for How to Play Hockey!
Intro to Hockey (ages 4-13) is conducted by The Rink Exchange and classes are held at Lane County Ice. If you're not sure if hockey is right for your child, this program is a great way to get an idea before committing to a full season's registration with LAHA. Your child will have the opportunity to experience how to wear the gear, how to skate and handle the puck on the ice, and some basics for the game of hockey all in a fun, small-group setting.
Children who successfully complete the Intro to Hockey program typically transition into the Eugene Jr. Generals program in order to join a team and increase their level of development. If the timing of this transition occurs after the start of the season, please contact the LAHA Registrar to get information on what the registration fee would be for your player.
